App Watcher Privacy Policy

Effective date and last updated: September 11, 2026

App Watcher for Android ("App Watcher", "the app") is an open-source app developed and provided by Alex Gavrishev. This policy explains what information the app accesses, collects, uses, stores, and shares.

Summary

  • App Watcher stores your watchlist, tags, update history, and settings locally on your device.
  • A Google account is used to retrieve Google Play information. Google Drive synchronization is optional and requires separate authorization.
  • The app uses Google services for Play Store access, optional Drive synchronization, analytics, and crash reporting.
  • I do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.

Information App Watcher accesses or collects

Google account and Google API data

When you select a Google account, App Watcher accesses the account email address and receives authentication tokens and device-registration identifiers from Google. The app stores this information on your device and uses it only to:

  • authenticate requests for app details and updates from Google Play;
  • maintain the Google Play connection required by the app's update-checking feature; and
  • authenticate Google Drive synchronization if you separately enable that feature.

App Watcher does not receive or store your Google password.

If you enable Google Drive synchronization, App Watcher requests the drive.appdata permission. This restricted permission allows the app to create and access only its own application-data file in your Google Drive; it does not allow App Watcher to read your other Drive files. The synchronized file contains your watched application records and tags.

App Watcher's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Watchlist and app data

App Watcher stores the following data locally:

  • package identifiers and Play Store metadata for applications you watch;
  • application version and update history;
  • tags and organization choices;
  • notification, synchronization, display, and other app settings; and
  • whether watched applications are installed on the device.

The app sends watched package identifiers, Google authentication information, and device-registration information to Google Play as needed to retrieve current app metadata and check for updates. If Google Drive synchronization is enabled, watched application records and tags are uploaded to your app-specific Google Drive storage.

Analytics and diagnostics

App Watcher uses:

  • Google Analytics for Firebase to understand aggregate app usage and improve features. Depending on Google's SDK behavior and your device settings, this may include app interactions, an app-instance identifier, device model, operating-system version, app version, language, approximate location derived from IP address, and event timestamps.
  • Firebase Crashlytics to diagnose crashes and errors. Crash reporting can be turned on or off in App Watcher settings. When enabled, diagnostic reports may include stack traces, app logs, device and operating-system information, app version, crash time, and technical identifiers associated with the app installation.

App Watcher does not intentionally attach your Google account email address to analytics or crash reports.

Information you provide directly

If you contact me for support, I receive the information you choose to provide, such as your email address, message, and any diagnostic details or attachments you include. I use it only to respond to your request and troubleshoot the issue.

How information is used

Information is used to:

  • provide watched-app update checks and notifications;
  • synchronize your watchlist when you enable Google Drive synchronization;
  • remember your settings and maintain app functionality;
  • diagnose failures, monitor reliability, and improve the app; and
  • respond to support requests.

Sharing and service providers

I do not sell or rent your personal information. Information is shared only as needed with the following service providers:

  • Google Play services and Google Play for account selection, authentication, device registration, and app metadata;
  • Google Drive for optional watchlist synchronization;
  • Google Analytics for Firebase for usage analytics; and
  • Firebase Crashlytics for crash and diagnostic reporting.

Google processes information under its own Privacy Policy. More information about Firebase privacy and data processing is available on the Firebase Privacy and Security page.

Information may also be disclosed if required by law, to protect users or the public, or to establish or defend legal claims.

Data storage, retention, and deletion

  • On-device data: Watchlists, settings, account details, and authentication data remain on your device until you remove them, clear App Watcher's storage, or uninstall the app.
  • Google Drive data: Synchronized watchlist data remains in App Watcher's app-specific Google Drive storage until it is deleted. You can disable synchronization in App Watcher, revoke App Watcher's access from your Google Account connections, and delete the app's stored data through Google Drive or your Google Account.
  • Analytics and crash data: Google retains this data according to the retention settings and policies for Firebase services. Because App Watcher does not attach your email address to these reports, I generally cannot identify an individual analytics or crash record by email address.
  • Support correspondence: I retain support messages only as long as reasonably necessary to resolve the request and maintain relevant records.

To remove locally stored information, clear the app's storage in Android settings or uninstall the app. To request deletion of information that you believe I control, email [email protected]. I will respond and delete applicable information unless retention is required by law.

Permissions

App Watcher may request permissions for internet and network access, notifications, account selection, checking whether watched apps are installed, background update checks, importing or exporting a watchlist, and optional Google Drive synchronization. Permissions are used only for the features described in this policy.

Security

I use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information. Authentication tokens and app data are stored in Android application storage, and network communication with Google services uses encrypted HTTPS connections. No transmission or storage method is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

Children's privacy

App Watcher is not directed to children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact me so I can take appropriate action.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy when App Watcher's features or data practices change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
